Review: The Beauty Bakery - Raspberry Bath Butter Bomb

Last Friday I was feeling a bit off, so I needed a long, hot bath. In went the Raspberry bath bomb from The Beauty Bakery! My expectations were high, this is a big bomb that weighs about 200 grams and contains lots of oils and shea butter, or so the website says.

I think the bomb was a bit powdery on the outside, not the most solid bomb I've tried so far. It smelled okay, but also very strong. It wasn't bad, but I thought it would smell more sweet instead of strong perfumed raspberry. There were chunks of shea butter in it, so that's always a plus in a bath bomb. My skin felt pretty amazing afterwards. The scent was definitely still on my skin, but it wasn't overpowering.

Would I buy it again? Aside from the shea butter, it wasn't my favorite bath bomb I tried so far. I think the scent just wasn't my thing, which is weird because I always love a good berry scent. I might try a different one from the range with a next order in the future.

Review: Smith's Rosebud Salve

I picked this up right before it started to get icy cold outside to protect my lips from cracking all winter long. I got mine at Ici Paris XL and there were about 10 other variations to pick from, but I chose the basic one, just to try out. Here's my thoughts on it.

I love the packaging! It's looks very retro and it's a big tin. I paid about 10 euros for it and you get 22 grams for it, so that's quite a lot. I also still opens just as fast as it did at the beginning, I find that metal tins tend to get harder to open after some time. I also like the smell, even though I do not like the smell of roses. This is a very subtle scent. The substance is very vaseline like, it glides on very smoothly.

It does moisturize my lips, but I feel like I need to reapply it every 20 minutes. When it wears off my lips, the inner rims of my lips are the first to go and it feels really dry, I really don't like this feeling and I never got it with any other lip balms. But as long as it's on my lips, it's great for protecting them from the cold and dry air.

I have been sick A LOT this winter, so the skin around my nose looked horrible. I put this on it when I went to bed and it really helped my skin to recover. I think it's also great to apply to your cuticles or other dry areas on the body, but I still have to try those things out more.

M.A.C - Pro Longwear foundation

I've been using this foundation for a couple of months now, so I think I can give an honest review about it. I always wanted to try a M.A.C foundation, but there's so much different kinds I didn't knew which one was right for me. I've heard too many stories of girls that went to a make up counter to ask for help to pick out a foundation, went home and still weren't satisfied with their purchase. So I decided to do some research before and found this very helpful guide from Dustin Hunter. Check it out, it really helped me.

I like the packaging. I've had foundations with a pump before, but they always clogged up. Next time I used it, I got a big chunk of dried up foundation on my face. Who wants that? I don't really have this problem with this packaging, sometimes just a little bit. Wiping off the little excess on the pump after use really prevents it.

I just apply it with my fingers, one pump is enough to cover my face for daily wear. On the website it says it's sheer to medium coverage and I mostly agree with it. It's a buildable foundation, making it cover up red zones like around the nose or mouth very easy. I do find that when I use a green corrector on red zones underneath my foundation, it gives perfect coverage. If you check out Dustin Hunter's in depth review about the Pro Longwear foundation, he says you don't need any powder to set it. When I bought this foundation, the MUA tried it on me first and he did set it with a powder. It did look good for several hours, but at night you could see it get a bit cakey. So no powder for me. It does last all day for me, but when I go out at night I just put another thin layer on my red zones, to be safe ;).

There's only one little downside for me. I have combination skin, so I have some dry zones on my face, like in between my eyebrows. After I applied foundation, it can look a bit flakey. I have to pick out the little bits of dry skin with a tweezer and take a damp cotton pad to even out the foundation. The best part is, the cotton pad will have 0,0 foundation on it. You rub as hard as you want, only a good make up remover will get this foundation off your face.

If you're looking for a medium coverage foundation that'll last you all day, I think this is a good way to go. If you're looking for a good M.A.C foundation, I recommend watching the video and /or go to your local M.A.C store or counter to ask for some help.

Lush Valentine - Magic Mushroom

To be honest, I don't really care about holidays like Valentines Day. However, I do love Lush, so when they came out with some Valentine products, I just couldn't resist. I loved the ideas behind the Ex-Factor and The Frog Prince bath bombs, but I was on a budget so I only took the Magic Mushroom bubble bar with me.

I love the fragrance. It's a mixture of vanilla and strawberry, making it a deliciously creamy scent that fills up your bathroom. I got a ton of creamy, soft foam with this bubble bar, much more than with any other I tried so far. It also turned the water a light reddish colour. My skin felt so soft, and the scent lingered for quite some time. I still got a big chunk left, I think you could get about 3 baths out of it. I really regret not buying another one! I really like this one.

If you're lucky, you still might find one of these at your local Lush shop. But if you're not, you'll have to wait until next year, just like me. Boo!

Lush - my face routine

I bought these products early September and I have been using them ever since, so I think I can give you an honest review about them. I have combination skin, meaning that my T-zone is oily and the rest of my face is normal to dry. I'm also very pale and have red zones on my face. I have had eczema in the past that likes to pop up again from time to time. It was quite a challenge to find a routine that works!
Oh, and sorry about the quality of the pictures. I took most of these a while back when lighting wasn't all too good. Making new ones isn't really an option because the products get a bit messy when in use, haha. O well, here we go.


At night, I remove my makeup with Ultra Bland. It's a pasty substance, but also very oily . I take about a fingertip out of the jar and rub it over my face. I leave my eyes for last, or the eyeliner and mascara turn my face totally black. Then take a washcloth or some cotton pads and soak it with warm water. Remove the oil from your face and you're done! I also like to use Baby Face to make sure I removed all of my eye makeup, mascara can be so stubborn sometimes.

After removing my makeup, I like to cleanse my face some more to be sure it's 100% clean. For this I use Angels on Bare Skin cleanser. It's a clay based cleanser with lavender oil. It also holds ground almonds, so it's a gentle scrub as well. You take about a pea size out of the jar and mix it with some water into the palm of your hand and apply it to your damp skin and rinse off.

Then it's toner time! I use Eau Roma Water for this. It's a mixture of lavender and rose water, very soothing. Just spray it 3 to 4 times on a cotton pad and rub it over your face. There shouldn't be anymore dirt on the pad now, or you didn't do a good job on the previous two steps!

Don't let the toner completely dry, apply moisturizer when it's still damp. I use Imperialis, a herbal mixture in a cute pinky colour. It holds lavender, orange blossom, tiger lily and St Johns wort. This is the first moisturizer I tried and it was perfect from the beginning. I tried a couple more after I bought this, just out of curiosity but this is the only one that works.

The last step is applying eye cream. I use Enchanted Eye cream, but sadly they're discontinuing it. I don't really see why because it does help to combat under eye redness. Don't apply your eye cream directly underneath the eye, but tap it onto your cheekbones. I've been told that the thin skin under your eyes work like sponges and they'll soak up the right amount of cream it needs. When you apply too much eye cream directly underneath the eye, it can cause under eye redness and puffyness instead of helping it.

So yup, that's the routine I do every night. It looks a lot but it only takes me about 5 minutes. I know I'm coming across as a total Lush-loony, but I can't help it. I really believe in their products and they work for me. Have you tried any of their face products yet, or do you just like their soaps and fragrances?

Urban Decay - Big Fatty Mascara

I watch a lot of makeup tutorials and I heard Kandee Johnson rave about this mascara. So last Summer when I was visiting London, I went to Boots and purchased this mascara. And I have been using it ever since.

Yes, I know you 'shouldn't' use a mascara for over 6 months. I think that's bs. I use my mascara until the tube is out of product or starts to smell funky. Mascara always smells funky but you know what I mean ;).
Anyway, I payed about 13 pounds for it and it was money well spent. It doesn't clump like most mascara's do, even when you let it set to dry and apply another layer. It also doesn't smudge or feel like a thick sticky layer on your lashes. It removes easily, just some normal makeup remover will do. It also has the coolest packaging ever! I never have to search for hours in my makeup bag, this sweetie is way too vibrant to look pass.

Lush - Cinders ballistic

Another product from the Lush Christmas collection. Out of the ballistics I took home with me, this one was my favorite. It has such a strong, cinnamon spicy smell. I placed it on the heating system in my room for some time so it would smell like Christmas. Mmm..

It also looks just too pretty! The red sugary bits makes it look like it's on fire, it's gorgeous. It contains almond oil, cinnamon leaf oil and sweet orange oil. Such a gooood combination. Honestly, writing about it makes me want to go out and buy more of them, haha. The bathroom smelled so good, very warming and spicy with a hint of sweetness. It also lingered on the skin for quite some time. I took a bath with this in the evening, and when I woke up, I could still smell it on my skin. What a good start of the day! The oils also really hydrated my skin, it was ever so smooth again.

If you love spicy scents, I strongly suggest you go out and get this one. It smelled sooo good to me, it was like Christmas in the tub. Yummy! Hurry up though, it's limited!

Fall favorites

Just like in Summer, I decided to post my favorite products of this season. I know a lot of you beautybloggers post monthly favorites, but I don't buy THAT much beauty and makeup stuff, haha. Here we go:


Urban Decay's Naked Palette! Lovelovelove it. I think this is a perfect palette for just about any occasion. I love all of the shades, but toasted and hustle are my absolute favorites. I think I will post a review about it, but not an in depth one. You can find one on almost every beautyblog these days so I don't really see the point of it. The eyeliner pencil is great too, but I'm not in love the with Primer Potion. Too bad.


I already posted about Essie's Velvet Voyeur here, but I didn't post about the Military polish from Eyeko. Yet. I worn this about 3 times now, so pictures are long due! Perfect shades for fall, I'm really into green khakis and burgundy purple colours these days. That's one way to follow the latest trends, right?



I also still need to put up some reviews of these products, I think I only posted about the paint pot. Woops, terrible blogger. These are MAC's Fleur Power blush, MAC's Pro Longwear foundation in NC20, MAC's Painterly paint pot and Catrice's Absolute Moisture Lipstick in Caramel Beige. I love the blush because it's a perfect matte shade for my skin, and it's very well pigmented. The foundation really does last all day long, and it matches my skin tone perfectly. I bought the lipstick just at random, and it turned out to be a great buy. I'm sort of forcing myself to get more into lip products, and it's going pretty well actually!


And last but not least, my favorite bath/shower products. I am totally in love with Iced Wine, a limited product from the Lush Christmas range. I'm going shopping on Sunday, and I'm getting the big pot this time. Please Lush, put this in your permanent range! I'm also loving the Me!Bath Vanilla Purity Shower Sherbet I won a while back. It's perfect for quick showers, it lathers a bit so you only need this scrub for a quick wash.

I think I talk/type too much. I always intend to post small posts, but they always end up like this one. Oops, haha. So, what do you think of my favorites?

Lush - Satsumo Santa bath ballistic

Another item I got at the Lush Christmas VIP. I almost didn't take this little guy home with me, but it just smelled too good not to. It reminded me of Fanta Pomelo! Nomnom.

I love how this ballistic looks! It's a big, plump jolly santa. Really cute. It mainly contains mandarin and bergamot oil and orange blossom absolute. Pretty sweet combo if you ask me. I smashed this little santa up in two pieces because I thought I'd be too big for just one bath. Too bad I was wrong! I already put half the santa in the tub, but I still didn't smell a lot of it. Okay, let's put the rest in it too. Nope, no success. I was so sad, because the ballistic on its own smelled SO DAMN GOOD, but no such thing in the tub. Blah. It did turn the water a bright orangey red, really looked nice! And as far as hydration goes, my skin was really smooth again, as always after a Lush tub.

Nope, I won't be repurchasing this one I'm afraid. I'm quite disappointed to be honest, I had great expectations because it's such a big ballistic. O well. If you still want to try it, you can get it at Lush for 4,95 euros. Be quick, it's a Christmas-only product.

Lush - Candy Cane bubble bar

When I bought this at the Lush Christmas VIP for, it was lying on a table together with the Snow Fairy shower gel and the lip tint and little bowls of candy. Picture perfect! The cane is pink and swirly, and it smells like a candy store. Of course I had to take it home with me! This is the first bubble bar from Lush that I bought and it was an instant hit. So. Many. BUBBLES!

I used this bar about 3 times, you can easily cut it into pieces with a knife. I crumbled it under running water and there were instant bubbles. I'm not kidding, I never saw so many bubbled in my bath. And the smell.. I love it! It reminds me of Snow Fairy, but it's not that heavy. It didn't really smell of vanilla to me, it's more of a sweet candy store scent. It also turned the water pink, I'm not a big fan of colored water but it looked cute. I'm sad the scent doesn't linger very long on the skin, but it did made it very smooth.

Lush - Iced Wine shower jelly

This is the first jelly from Lush I bought. I always thought it looked superweird and unpractical to use. It's not that bad actually! But more about that later on. This is a limited product from the Christmas collection, so be quick if you still want to try it.


Let's start of with the fragrance. I saw this product at the Christmas VIP, and as soon as I smelled it, I knew I had to have it. It's so sweet and fruity, really something for me! Its main ingredients are grapefruit oil, iced wine and buchu oil. Seriously, if there's anyone out there who doesn't like the smell of this, he or she must be insane. I just can't stop sniffing it! I might even like this one more than Snowfairy, but shh.


There are different ways to use a shower jelly. Personally, I like to just take the whole jelly and rub it over my body. It doesn't lather all that much, but I'm fine with that. The only problem I see people could have, is to hold on to the jelly. It's super slippery! I got the small pot, which makes it easier to hold I think. No worries if you drop it the first few times, you'll get the hang of it ;). I put it in the freezer once, but the combination of the icy cold jelly and the slipperiness made me dance around in the shower, haha. Anyway, you can also take some of the blob and rub it in a body puff so it lathers a lot, I also enjoyed it that way.
The problem I get with Lush soaps is that I dries out my skin. Not with this one! My skin is not super hydrated, but it just feels really soft. At it smells delicious. Seriously, sometimes I feel like a walking sorbet. Yummy.

If there's anything I would recommend buying from the Christmas collection, it would be this shower jelly. I think I might go and buy another one for Summer!

MAC - Painterly Paintpot

I've been wanting to try this out as a base for a long time. I finally bought it and tried it out for about a couple of months now. Not that I wasn't happy with my Too Face Shadow Insurance, I still love it. But I like to try different things. I can't help it I'm curious!

I really like the substance, it's creamy but not oily. It leaves a nice silky base for eye shadows. I like the way I don't have to wait a long time for it to dry, as some bases do. That way it won't get streaky. It also makes blending a lot more easy. I don't use it as an eye shadow on its own, but I think it's possible when you get a more tinted paintpot. I picked painterly because it's matte and it matches my skin tone the most. I can create the perfect canvas to put any colour on it.



The only downside on this product is the price, but you do get a lot of product for it. But still, 19 euros for a primer is a tad much. And maybe also that it doesn't come in a tube, but in a pot. So you swirl your finger in it, or use a brush. The fingers for the quick and easy way, or the brush for the hygienic way, but you'll need to clean it afterwards. Germs!

- works with cheaper eye shadows too

I really love it, maybe a little bit more than the Too Faced Shadow Insurance (oh ohh..). This is definitely not my last paintpot!

Eyeko - Strawberry Fatbalm

I've been waiting for Eyeko to bring out the new fatbalms for aaages. The moment they appeared on the website, I placed an order! Now let's see if it lived up to my high expectations.

I thought it would be bigger to be honest. It looks like a plump lipstick, but with a flat top. You also don't get all that much product for 7 euros in my opinion. And there's glitters in it. Glitters! I hate glitters ;(. But these were just my first impressions. It really won me over when I started using it. I did like the packaging right away though, the gray looks way better than the previously pink fat balms.


Eyeko describes it as a pink colour, but it looks more of a muted red to me. And well, I'm scared of red lipsticks. I've got big eyes and full cheeks with a relatively small mouth, so vibrant lips easily look funny on me. I actually look okay wearing this on my lips! I thought it would hold a lot less pigment, but it's quite okay. Therefore, you don't need a lot of product. And the glitters I hate so much, you can hardly tell it's there. It just becomes a nice glowy sheen. Pfew! The only problem I have is getting it on my lips. The balm is so big you easy get colour outside of your lips. I can't say anything about the moisturizing effect because I mainly use it as a cream blush. I just get some of it on my fingers and dab it on my cheeks, it gives me a nice pinky flush, I like it. O, and the smell! I actually like it, it's like super sweet strawberry candy.

I think for the amount you get, 7 euros is a bit much maybe. However I do think I'm getting another one in a paler colour so I can use it on my lips daily. I think Minty would be something for me.

Burt's Bees - Hand Salve

I bought this at Sephora, it came in a 3-pack with the lip balm and the cuticle butter. You can read more about the lip balm here.

This is just a small 'testing' tin, it's 8,5 g while the larger tin is 85 g. It is quite easy to just throw it in you purse and use it throughout the day, but I never do so. The reason why I don't is because this stuff is SUPER oily! I used it once during the day and it took ages for it so absorb. It is effective though. I use it as an overnight treatment, and in the morning my hands are super smooth. Because it's such a small tin, I had some problems getting a decent amount of product out of it. You really have to work your finger in it for it to budge. Also, the smell is really strong. I like it, but I understand if someone else doesn't. It's has eucalyptus in it, I think that's where the smell is coming from. It's a bit of a medical smell I think?

You should've seen my friend's face when she applied this on her lips, mistaking it for the lip balm. Priceless! ;D

Con:

- smell puts most people off
- hard to get product out of tin at first
- takes a while to absorb into the skin

I'm really glad I could test this product because I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. I don't think I'd buy a large tin, I like a more creamy substance to moisturize my hands, preferably with a nice pump so I didn't have to dip my finger in the jar (germs..).

The Body Shop - Deo Dry Cool & Zesty Stick

I had such high hopes for this deodorant. I always used a deodorant spray, but I ended up spraying at least 5 times a day. Seriously, I think people were calling me 'Deo-girl' behind my back, haha. I knew The Body Shop recently brought out a new deodorant, available as stick or a roller and in 3 fragrances: Chilled & Breezy, Cool & Zesty and Fresh and Floral. I really felt I should try it, so I bought Cool & Zesty for about 5 euros. This is what The Body Shop says:

A stick deodorant that works in a more natural yet effective way. It contains a volcanic mineral that absorbs wetness to keep you dry, and essential oils that mask unpleasant odour.



Not that much information if you ask me. It does work however. I love the scent, but that's no surprise because I'm into citrus smells. It keeps you dry all day long, at least in normal conditions. After stressing out at work for 4 hours, you really need to reapply, but I guess that's normal. It really does mask 'unpleasant odours', so a thumbs up for that.

Sadly, I can't use it anymore. Their website also says 'Do not apply to broken skin'. Almost all girls shave or wax their armpits, so the skin gets irritated anyway I think. I used it for a good 3 weeks, and my armpits became very irritated, red and dry. Not a very pleasant feeling or sight. I'm so bummed!

I really loved how good it worked for me and how it smells. Maybe I will buy the roller one instead next time, but for now I'm testing one from Nivea. Yeah, feeling guilty about it already because they test on animals. Boo me, I'm bad.

Me!Bath - Vanilla Purity Shower Sherbet

Wow, this is the largest pot of scrub I ever had. Seriously, 500 g of scrub? That's a lot. I won this product with a contest on SnowWhiteGlamour, along with some other goodies which you can view here. And here!

The lid on this pot is not very air or moist proof. In fact, when I got this, the lid was only still half on it. Luckily there's a seal that keeps in the product or my package would've been one big sticky mess. I still have to be careful how I store this in the bathroom, I don't want to tip it over or something. Luckily, the substance isn't runny at all so it wouldn't make a huge mess. It's like a very dense gel substance, something I have never came across before. You really need to dig in your fingers in it to get some product. It's a sugar scrub, so the grains of the scrub aren't on the rough side. You can feel a gentle scrub, not too soft and not too hard. It's perfect for my arms. It also foams just a little bit, which is nice because it feels like you're hydrating the skin at the same time. Be sure to rinse this off thoroughly, I missed a spot once and it was SUPER sticky! It does leave my skin slightly hydrated, but not enough. I do think it's a great base to put the Body Icing on. That way you also built up the scent. And you really want to do that, since it's a super sweet vanilla one.

I really like this scrub for my arms, it's a perfect balance between rough and gentle. As for other parts of my body, I like a more rough scrub I think. The scent also lingers for a while, without using other products. I'm having the same dilemma as with the Body Icing. It's a bit expensive, but I like the product. Is it worth the splurge?

Lush - Miranda soap

I got this as a tester on one of my Lush visits. I absolutely love the smell of Lush soaps, Sandstone and The Godmother are my absolute favorites. However, I haven't bought a Lush soap in ages. Somehow, they don't work for my skin. Or maybe I haven't found one that suits it. My skin is pretty dry and Lush soap makes it 'squeaky' clean. I mean, rubbing on my wet skin, you can actually hear this 'rubbery' sound. So weird, and so unpleasant.

The smell is awesome though. Really fresh and fruity! The main ingredients are fresh kiwi fruit, juniper berry oil and bergamot oil, which smells of oranges. This is a great soap for summer time I think, I really felt refreshed after using this. Or for winter mornings, when you need a little kick to start the day.

Pro:

- vegan and not tested on animals

Con:
- squeaky feeling

Me!Bath - Vanilla Purity Body Icing

This is another product I won from SnowWhiteGlamour's contest. I already reviewed the Bath Ice Cream in Land of Milk and Honey, you can view that here.

Like the Bath Ice Cream, the smell of this product is a-ma-zing. It's pure creamy vanilla, it's a deep scent, but not too heavy. It also lingers a long time. When I take a morning shower and then use this on my skin, I can still smell some of it at night. This almost never happens with a body lotion or butter. So that's a BIG plus! It's called body 'icing', it's not a butter, nor a lotion. It's somewhere in between really. Sometimes you really have to squeeze the bottle hard for product to come out. I do love the packaging though. It has this cap you pop open, so no pot to dip in with your fingers.

This must be one of the most hydrating creams I have tried so far. You don't need a lot so it'll last you quite some time. It's a white, very creamy substance that penetrates the skin fast enough to put on clothes within 15 minutes, so it's great to use in mornings. It's designed for people with normal to dry skin, and it really works. My skin is really hydrated and smooth after I used this. Not to forget how lovely I smell, sometimes I feel like a walking vanilla ice cream cone!

This is going to last me a long time, so I'm in no need to place an order for this soon. I'm not sure if I will, I think it's a lot of money for a body cream. I do however love this stuff, so I might splurge on it.
